Reeshemah Thornton
Ree'shemah Thornton is the Dean of Enrollment Services at Merritt College, a position she's held since April 2021. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, Ree'shemah is deeply committed to providing students with equitable access to higher education. She has dedicated her career to supporting first-generation students and fostering inclusive learning environments.
Prior to Merritt College, Ree'shemah held leadership roles at Holy Names University and San Francisco State University, where she oversaw various enrollment management functions, including admissions, financial aid, and student support services. Her extensive experience also includes positions at the University of California Office of the President, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Alan Hancock Community College.
Ree'shemah holds a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society and Black Studies from UC Santa Barbara.
A proud Oakland native, Ree'shemah enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her children's sporting events, and capturing the beauty of Oakland sunsets through photography. Her passion for student success, collaborative spirit, and dedication to innovation make her an invaluable asset to the Merritt College community.
